Sugar & Obesity
Awesome lecture by Dr. Robert H. Lustig, MD, UCSF Professor of Pediatrics in the Division of Endocrinology about sugar (particularly high fructose syrups) and its effects on the obesity epidemic.
The Saturated Fat Myth
Repeat after me: fats are your friends. Even saturated fats! Much of the 90’s hype proposing a low fat diet was based an extremely flawed study by Ancel Keys. There has been a lot of evidence that now tells us that all of this fear of saturated fats is bogus. Stick to avoiding trans fats and we’re golden.
This gadget is phenomenal! I use it to track all my macronutrients/calories. It makes cycling macros really easy, you can tell it how many calories you need to eat in a day, what percentage of them should be protein/carbs/fats etc. AND if it doesn’t have a food you’re trying to track, you can upload all the nutritional information and create your own custom recipes and foods. Really great tool for anyone trying to bulk/cut/recomp.
This is my bible. I mentioned that I practice Intermittent Fasting on a daily basis. I have been doing it for a few months now and am loving it Martin Berkhan runs this blog and I’m warning you – all you fitcentric folks out there may not like what he has to say. I know I sure didn’t because it went against everything I was ever taught about fitness and nutrition. Go here with an open mind, read everything he has to say and don’t knock it simply because cosmo told you that breakfast was the most important meal of the day. I skip breakfast every single day, hoard my carbs at night, fast for 16 hours, and have ditched cardio for a heavy lifting program. I’ve lost weight, upped my squat and chest press and my body is not magically hoarding calories because it thinks it’s “in starvation mode.” *Eyeroll* Lots of good info here and everything Martin says is backed by peer reviewed journal articles.
